Screening Process

Application:
Participants must complete an initial intake form that includes basic demographic information, mental health history, and reasons for joining the group.

Interview:
After the intake form is reviewed, participants will have a 15-20 minute interview with the facilitator to assess readiness for CBT, level of distress, and goals for the group.

Criteria:
Participants should demonstrate a willingness to engage with CBT practices, have no active suicidal ideation, and show a need for LGBTQ-affirmative support. Those with severe mental health needs may be referred to individual therapy instead.

Over the course of nine weeks, participants will explore a variety of topics designed to address LGBTQ-related stress. The program begins with goal setting and motivation building, followed by understanding the emotional impact of LGBTQ-related stress and learning to track and become mindful of stress reactions. Participants will then work on increasing cognitive flexibility, countering emotional behaviors, and experimenting with new, healthier reactions. The final weeks focus on emotional exposures and culminate in recognizing personal accomplishments and planning for the future.
